Guerra De La Independencia; Retratos(Catalogo) Madrid Junta De Iconografia Nacional 1908 Hard Cover Good No Jacket Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall Various Original beige medium weight boards, red and black lettering, no DJ. Portraits of Spain's military heroes of the Peninsular War, 1808-14, 43 in all, with brief biography for each. Conditon of the portraits is VERY good, with all tissue guards intact. However, due to the fact that some portraits are separating from the binding, I list the overall condition as good. Minor repair by a trained binder would make it a beautiful book again, or the portraits would be ideal for framing for public display in a bar, restaurant, museum, or other hall. Very few other copies were found, all in Spain and all for higher prices. An opportunity not likely to come again. Overall about 11 in. wide by 15 1/2 in. tall. Weight 4.5 lbs. or 2 kilos. Baltimore Fisher & Brother 1851 Original Cloth Fair No Jacket 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall B/W Frontispiece Original once-beige blindstamped cloth grubby with handling. Broken front hinge. Corner and edgewear. Some foxing not affecting readability. Missing free front endpaper. Previous owner's name written lightly in pencil. Small book measures 3" by 4 1/4." This comprehensive book gives examples of various kinds of letters, including the following "Dear Jane" letter: "Madam - I am fearful that we were too precipitate in forming a mutual engagement. Our dispositions and tastes were so antagonistical, that there would be a continual conflict between our inclinations; which would be productive of much sorrow. Therefore, I desire to be released from the engagement, confident that we never could be happy as wife and husband." You'll have to buy the book to read the jilted woman's tearful response. There is even a section called "How to Act" which includes helpful advice on how to conduct oneself at church, in the street, and in the ballroom. In these days of quick e-mails, many of the skills discussed in this book are long gone. 256 pages. Price:
