N.Y. The Macmillan Company 1920 Hard Cover Good Plus to Very Good No Jacket With Illustrations
Original maroon cloth on boards. Cover fading. Previous owner's name. Reverend William Booth was an active minister in the Methodist Reform Church in England. Largely self-taught, he had forsaken his position as a pawnbroker, into which his father had arranged for him to be apprenticed at the age of 13. After developing a strong practice in evangelistic preaching in London, he resigned from the Methodist New Connexion in order to pursue work among the poor full-time. In 1865, Booth and his wife opened the Christian Revival Society in East End London. The name, Salvation Army, was chosen about 1878 and the resulting organization was closely modelled on the military. Heavy book might need extra postage. 446 pp.
