Original soft green cloth lavishly decorated in red and green florals on boards. Except for the previous owner's boldly pencilled signature, this book has no flaws. Little Mary McGregor had grown up in Australia, but after the death of both parents she had come back to Scotland to live on her uncle's farm. Before she died, her mother had given her a box of note cards, promissory notes on a Bank that can never fail. 134 pp.

Hinges sound. An account of the 1870-1871 war, as told in a somewhat embellished manner by a member of the Seymour family. Patterned endpapers. 384 pp.

London Thomas Nelson and Sons 1899 Reprint Hard Cover Good Plus to Very Good No Jacket
Original dark blue cloth lettered in gold on boards. Previous owner's name. My first impression of the book was that the main character, Diana, is too fond of her brother of 14, who is near her own age. They seem to like the same things, and have a plan to make a secret hideout on a nearby island. The author of the only review of this book I could find mockingly agrees that it is indeed a tale - only a tale, and seems to find no redeeming qualities in it. I find the choice of words more than quaint, even hoity-toity, and regard the text itself as generally off-putting, to use a fine phrase.
