Number 5 of a Limited Edition of 100 copies. Inscribed "To Ann (or Wm.?) Bate with many thanks for her (or his ?) valuable assistance." (Signature assumed to be the author's). Green patterned endpapers. Descended from a prominent jeweler of New York City, the poet was overshadowed by his father, Henry G. Marquand, millionaire investment dealer, railroad owner, art collector, and philanthropist. His poems are light and clever, often with an agricultural theme or allusion, the earliest of which he wrote at 14 years of age. Only three copies of this book are known extant - two in libraries and one in the private papers of the poet's brother, Allan. The Bate Family was associated with Saint John, N.B.
