10 Black, William Judith Shakespeare; Her Love Affairs and Other Adventures
N.Y. A.L. Burt Company Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall
Original maroon cloth on boards. First published in serial form in 1884. The daughter of William Shakespeare apparently lacked schooling, for at one point in her adult life she "made her mark" as a substitute for writing her name. Another source claims that she was eventually taught to read by a Quaker friend. At the time of her marriage, her husband was fighting a paternity charge by another woman. This resulted in his excommunication, but he was promptly re-instated. The book has no writing and no damage. 352 pp.

Sunrise, Black, William
11 Black, William Sunrise
N.Y. John W. Lovell Company Worthington Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall
Original brown cloth intricately decorated in black on boards. Gilt cover and spine.spine lettering. This is one of seven volumes by the same author from the same previous owner, all in very good condition. In Sunrise, Black gets a lot of content from the Berezowski affair, an attempt to assassinate Tsar Alexander II who was in Paris to atend the World's Fair. One of the big London papers concluded from this novel that Black had a faulty understanding of secret xocieties. At any rate, it seems to me to be an absorbing story. Previous owner's name, with no other writing or damage. Cocked. 430 pp.
