A full year of Peterson's Magazine with 12 color covers engraved by Illman Brothers of Philadelphia. Previous owner was Mrs. W.H. Smith, whose name is stamped in gilt at base of spine. Label of F. Schottin, Bookbinder, 62 Huron St., Buffalo. Attached to third free endpaper is original work order for Mrs. Smith from S.S. Marsh, Limestone, N.Y., Books and Rubber Stamps. calling for "1/2 Mo Red, Paper No. 14, Marble Edge, Supply 2 ____, 1878." Bound in are 12 complete issues of Peterson's Magazine, comprising 908 pp. Each monthly cover is in color, with foldout showing four women in elaborate long gowns. There is negligible damage to some cover edges due to inaccurate folding. There are many additional illustrations in b/w to acompany the stories. Front hinge cracked. Marbled endpapers. Heavy book will need extra postage.

Article II is a speech by John Leach, M.P., on Limitations to the Royal Authority. Article III is related to mining; New Theory of the Formation of Veins. Article IV treats Liberty of the Press with wit and humour. Travels in the South of Spain (In Letters) by William Jacob, M.P.,comprises Article V. The sixth article is Burney's Tentamen, a study of the metrical remains of the dramatic poets. A History of Arithmetic by M. Peyrard comprises Article VII. Several more articles are included, for a total of 510 pp., minus the obliterated ones. Catalog of new publications and an index complete this volume. Well-bound.
