This 16th Century French philosopher influenced Descartes and Pascal, among others. He refused to "correct" his early work, but included it in later writings, which showed changes in his thinking. Some contemporaries were not impressed, but more recent philosophers have learned to accept and value his contributions in the areas of self-study and skepticism, especially. Translated by Charles Cotton. Dali has contributed 15 bright, full-page colour prints with blank versos, most of human figures and some nude, as well as several monochrome drawings. Art works are distributed throughout the book in order to best illustrate the text. 472 pp.
