Original green cloth on boards. Cover fading. No marks or other damage. Walpole, 1884-1941, was considered by some to be obsolete as early as 1930, no doubt the result in part of his lampooning by Somerset Maugham in his novel, Cakes and Ale. In Steen's biography I found precious little reflection on the man, but reams of fawning critique of his work. One exception is the following, "A curiously youthful sincerity blazes through every page of his twenty-nine books." - p. 38. 288 pp.
