White paper boards backed in green cloth. No writing or damage. Appears to be a comprehensive and well-founded study of British domination of native tribes in Kenya, especially the Kikuyu. While immigrants from Britain were given large tracts to farm, native farmers were restricted and taxed, often being forced to work for the large landholders. Natives were forced to carry identification and live in camps where corporal punishment was the rule, often ending in death. This book made me understand and appreciate how and why the Mau Mau began. 475 pp.
