Black cloth on boards. Normal cover corner wear. No writing. I read only the first chapter, which waxes eloquently on the achievements of the Vanderbilts, especially the New York Central System. My father worked for that outfit until he fell from an engine catwalk and injured his spine. Misdiagnosed as a polio victim, he was shipped to Sheltering Arms in St. Paul for six months. He got back to work in time to be layed off due to the switch from steam to diesel, after which he worked only on call. Still, the New York Central is linked with happy memories of a trip to Cleveland for baseball, among others. This book will delight any true lover of trains. Several maps. 287 pp.
