Original yellow photo card covers. 1/2" tear at edge of front cover neatly repaired with clear tape. The first volume in a popular series of books about the Saint John Police Force. It covers the transition of the force from an informal organization to a militaristic organization under the autocratic leadership of Chief W. Walter Clark (spoiler alert - he didn't last!). Lots of strange crimes and bizarre criminals here, including a plot by a former asylum inmate to murder Saint John ministers with gifts of poisoned chocolates! Gerald Wallace was the Saint John Police Chief from 1965-1969, and William Higgins was also a police officer. The third author, Peter McGahan is a professor at University of New Brunswick. 143 pp. including Notes and Index.
